More than 34 million Swiss francs in donations
Last year, Swiss Solidarity received 34.4 million Swiss francs in donations for aid in the Middle East, Sudan, Ukraine and Switzerland. Thanks to the solidarity of the Swiss population in previous years, we were able to support 172 projects with over CHF 63 million, helping more than 4.4 million people. Almost half of the donations went towards aid in Ukraine. We also enabled important humanitarian projects in Syria and Turkey, Sudan, the Middle East and following the devastating severe weather in Switzerland.
Appeals for donations in 2024
During the year, we launched four appeals for donations in collaboration with the SRG.
- In March and September, Swiss Solidarity renewed its appeal for solidarity with the civilian population in the humanitarian crisis in the Middle East, collecting 5.9 million francs in donations by the end of the year. Despite the difficult humanitarian access in Gaza and Lebanon, Swiss Solidarity was able to distribute food and provide access to medical care, sanitary facilities and financial support for the civilian population through its Swiss partner organisations in 12 projects
- In June, Swiss Solidarity called for solidarity with the people affected by the conflict in Sudan and the region. In what is currently the largest humanitarian crisis, 30 million people depend on humanitarian aid, including almost 5 million children and mothers. The foundation collected more than CHF 2.7 million in donations, and thanks to funds from the emergency relief fund, 11 projects in Sudan, South Sudan and Chad were financed.
- In the summer, following the devastating severe weather in July in Switzerland, Swiss Solidarity collected more than CHF 13 million in donations for aid in the affected cantons of Graubünden, Ticino and Valais. With these donations, urgently needed emergency aid amounting to around one million francs was provided for more than 250 households. Further aid from Swiss Solidarity is focused on covering outstanding costs and on further projects for private individuals, small businesses, charitable projects and municipalities.
- At the end of the year, Swiss Solidarity collected 5 million francs for children affected by violence and abuse in Switzerland and worldwide.
In 2024, Swiss Solidarity has proven that it can effectively provide aid and support to people in difficult contexts such as the humanitarian crises in the Middle East and Sudan. We also stood by people in need in Switzerland and provided important support after the severe weather in the summer. The sympathy of the Swiss population shows that solidarity remains a deeply rooted value in our country.

Help in Ukraine in the spotlight of the foundation
Even in the third year of the war in Ukraine, humanitarian aid remains indispensable for the affected civilian population through our Swiss partner organisations. Last year, we supported 44 projects of our partner organisations in the areas of medical care, housing repairs and child protection with 29.5 million Swiss francs. The humanitarian needs in Ukraine remain enormous and we continue our work for the population affected by the war. Our collection is ongoing and donations can still be made.
Syria & Turkey: Almost all donations used two years after earthquake
Another focus of the foundation was aid after the earthquake in Turkey and Syria. Over the last year, Swiss Solidarity has provided more than CHF 11.5 million to finance 27 projects by its Swiss partner organisations. The activities financed included the repair of homes, schools and water infrastructure, support for small businesses and hospitals, and the provision of psychological and financial support. Swiss Solidarity has already used more than 90% of the 32.4 million francs collected for projects and will use the remaining donations in the course of the year.
Other priorities for the projects supported in 2024 included aid in the Middle East, the drought in East Africa, and aid in Sudan and the region.
The complete key figures on Swiss Solidarity’s aid and collections will be published in the foundation’s detailed annual report in May.
