A violent earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale struck large areas of South-East Asia on Friday. Myanmar and Thailand have been particularly badly affected. The epicentre of the earthquake was near the city of Mandalay in Myanmar. Although the full extent of the damage has not yet been established, it is already clear that a great many people have been affected. Several NGO partners of Swiss Solidarity are present in the affected regions and are mobilising to provide emergency assistance to the victims. Swiss Solidarity is launching an appeal for donations in order to help the people affected by the disaster as quickly as possible.
Rapid aid thanks to Swiss partner organisations on the ground
In view of the urgency of the situation, Swiss Solidarity has launched a fundraising campaign and is appealing for solidarity. Several Swiss NGO partners, including Médecins Sans Frontières, Caritas, EPER, Helvetas, Save the Children and Terre des Hommes, are already active on the ground in Burma. Although some of them have themselves been affected by the earthquake, these organisations are able to provide emergency aid quickly to the affected populations, in the form of water, food and hygiene kits. Swiss Solidarity remains in close contact with its trusted partners in order to provide effective and rapid assistance. Once the emergency aid phase is over, the Foundation's support will be adapted according to local needs.
Donations can be made directly at www.swiss-solidarity.org or via Twint.

Swiss Solidarity Is sounding the alarm: As the conflict in Ukraine rages on, donations are running out
20.02.2025Three years ago, Russia launched a major offensive against Ukraine, plunging millions of civilians into an unprecedented humanitarian crisis. Today, the needs remain immense, and the Ukrainian people are exhausted. Swiss Solidarity has already used almost 80% of the donations received since 2022 to support the country’s population. Now concerned that it will lose its ability to provide aid in the long term, the foundation is again appealing for donations.
