Thanks to your generosity, more than CHF 10 million has so far been raised for the victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Indonesia, an amount that has far exceeded the pledges of CHF 6.2 million made during the fundraising day on 5th October.
Our partner relief organizations turn your donations into aid
Nine Swiss relief organizations are mobilized through their Indonesian partners to meet the needs of the population affected by the disaster. Swiss Solidarity has already invested CHF 1,200,000 to fund the activities of four of these organisations (ADRA, Caritas Switzerland, the Swiss Red Cross and Save the Children). We are in discussion with the other five partners involved to define the projects to be financed as a matter of priority in the coming months.
Our nine partners on the ground support Indonesian organisations and are therefore not subject to government restrictions on foreign employees of international NGOs.
How do we help
The donations collected will enable Swiss organisations and their local networks to provide assistance in the following areas in particular:
- Accommodation and non-food items: distribution of tents and materials to build temporary accommodation and basic necessities to equip them: mattresses, blankets, hygiene kits, cooking materials, clothes, torches. All or part of this aid will be directed towards the distribution of exchange vouchers or prepaid cards to enable families to purchase individually what they need. This will be possible when local markets are able to obtain supplies again and families have access to them.Drinking water: installation of systems for filtering, purifying, transporting and distributing water, as well as tools and instruments for repairing damaged water networks and pumps.Hygiene: installation of health services, particularly in areas where displaced families live.Medical assistance: direct support to health centres and hospitals, in particular for people with disabilities.Education and spaces for children: creation of protected recreational and educational spaces for children. Organisations set up tents and have educational materials, toys, books, coloured pencils, etc. Parents can thus be sure that their children are safe when they themselves devote themselves to other occupations in this post-emergency situation. These spaces also allow the identification of separated or unaccompanied children and the reunification of families.
