A fund for innovation

Innovation has become an important part of humanitarian aid and contributes to its effectiveness. Some innovative activities have already been developed byour partner NGOs, such as the use of renewable energy in refugee camps and 3D printers to produce prostheses.

However, finding funds for these activities is challenging, and due to the many risks involved and the skills that need to be acquired, NGOs are hesitant to automatically adopt these solutions. We would like to help overcome these obstacles and in so doing bolster the effectiveness of humanitarian projects.

Collaboration with the Global Humanitarian Lab

Our platform, created on this occasion to promote exchanges, is hosted, among others, by theGlobal Humanitarian Lab (GHL), which serves as a hub for innovation. The GHL, along with experts from Terre des hommes – Child relief and Handicap International, make up the steering committee.

Submissions

The fund will be financed through unallocated funds such asbequests, and endowed with a starting capital of 500,000 CHF. Innovative projects can also be submitted as part of fundraising campaigns following natural or social disasters, both in Switzerland and abroad. We will receive the first projects starting 8 February 2018.
